It seems that in today’s world, right-wing political parties are winning everywhere. Recently, in Germany, Europe’s largest economy, elections were held, and the results showed a massive defeat for left-wing parties. Meanwhile, right-wing parties received the maximum votes and secured the most seats.
Now, the person who is most likely to become Germany’s next Chancellor is Friedrich Merz. A comment made by him has gone viral worldwide, where he says, "We need independence from the USA." You can see here: "Independence from the USA." These three words have shocked many Americans, including Elon Musk.
People are wondering why such a statement was made—after all, isn’t Germany already an independent country? Was it ever a colony of the U.S.?
Recently, Germany has faced a major issue. Initially, under pressure from the U.S., European nations, including Germany, were asked to stop purchasing natural gas and oil from Russia to support Ukraine. Germany even criticized India for buying oil from Russia. This situation persisted for nearly one and a half years, causing significant harm to Germany’s economy, with the belief that the U.S. would stand firm in supporting Ukraine.
However, suddenly, Donald Trump comes into the picture, and the U.S. takes a massive U-turn, shifting its stance on Ukraine. Now, in Germany, there is only one demand: "Independence from the USA."
The over-dependence on the U.S. for defense, policies regarding Russia and China, and other geopolitical matters has led Friedrich Merz, the potential next Chancellor of Germany, to make it clear: his top priority will be to build an independent and self-reliant Germany.
In a recent speech, Merz stated that when he heard Donald Trump say that the U.S. should start talking to Russia again and make the G7 into G8, he realized that Trump does not care about Europe. This is why Europe must stand on its own, and Germany must seek true independence from the U.S.
Now, you might be wondering about the recent elections in Germany—yes, right-wing parties have won. But there is a particular political party, AfD (Alternative for Germany), that has been making headlines. What is this party, and has any party gained an absolute majority?
Germany's parliament, called the Bundestag, has a total of 630 seats. A political party needs 316 seats to form a majority government.
In the latest election results:
- The Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU), a center-right party, secured 208 seats, the highest among all parties.
- AfD, a far-right party, secured approximately 150 seats.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD), led by current Chancellor Olaf Scholz, suffered a heavy loss, losing 86 seats. Other left-wing parties also performed poorly, as voters did not favor them.
Now, can the CDU and AfD form a government together since they have more than 350 seats combined?
The answer is no.
The CDU has clearly stated that they will not form a government with AfD, as they believe AfD's ideology is too extreme. The CDU sees itself as a party that protects Germany from far-right ideologies like AfD's.
Elon Musk is upset about this, as he and Donald Trump openly supported AfD. However, AfD and Musk claim that this is only temporary. They believe that in the coming months, AfD’s popularity will continue to grow, and eventually, it will become Germany’s largest political party.
For example, you can see this rally of AfD in Germany, where their leader Alice Weidel is addressing the voters. In this rally, Elon Musk also participated virtually, supporting AfD.
Elon Musk’s direct interference in Germany’s elections has angered left-wing parties. They argue that an outsider who is not even a German citizen should not influence their elections. Some German leaders have even compared Musk to Vladimir Putin.
Regardless, Musk’s mission is not yet complete. AfD has not yet become the main political party in Germany, and they are not coming to power in this election either. The CDU will likely form a coalition government with another party to establish a stable administration.
However, this is bad news for the U.S. because, for the first time, Germany has a leader who openly states that his country should become truly independent from U.S. influence.
Other European leaders, such as Emmanuel Macron of France, have welcomed Friedrich Merz’s victory, stating that it will make Europe stronger. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has also supported Merz and CDU’s victory, calling it an important win for Europe.
Had AfD won, Germany would have undergone drastic changes, similar to how Donald Trump is reshaping U.S. policies. But for now, the situation remains under control.
However, the coming years will be very interesting, as Germany shifts toward greater independence from the U.S. Meanwhile, Elon Musk will likely continue to support AfD, trying to make them strong enough to form a government on their own in the future.
What do you think about this situation? Do you agree with Germany’s stance? Let me know in the comments.
